Orthokeratology

Orthokeratology (also known as Ortho-K or Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT)) is a therapy in which a series of engineered contact lenses are fitted to reduce and eliminate myopia and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea. The therapy is completed over several months during which the patient will make scheduled visits to refine the fit of the contact lenses and their vision.

The length of the therapy depends upon the severity of the patient's prescription and the shape of the cornea. After the procedure, the patient wears retainer lenses at night to maintain the new shape of the eye so that vision is clear without contacts or glasses during waking hours. This therapy is recommended for those with active lifestyles, athletes, pilots, those who work in dirty or dusty environments and those concerned about the risk from laser surgery but want to see clearly during the day without optical corrections. Furthermore, studies have demonstrated that Ortho-K can reduce the progressive nature of nearsightedness in teenagers and young adults.

Dr. Joe has been specializing in this procedure for over 13 years with many satisfied patients. During his residency training, he completed a research project showing the effectiveness of orthokeratology.
