Low Vision Evaluation and Care for the Visually Impaired
Eye diseases such as macular degeneration, advanced glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, and cataracts can cause severe visual loss resulting in distortion,
blurriness and incomplete vision even with glasses or contact lenses. These patients may have difficulty recognizing faces, reading, or seeing objects.
Normal Vision
Macular Degeneration
Glaucoma or Retinitis pigmentosa
Diabetic retinopathy
Cataract
Although these patients have reduced vision, most still have some usable vision. Our specialized Low Vision Evaluation will help to determine what usable vision is still
available and try to maximize it with optical magnifiers, telescopes, electronic devices and non-optical devices. Our goal is to equip the visually impaired individuals with the devices,
skills and strategies to remain safe, independent, and active at any stage of life. Dr. Joe has been specially trained to examine and work with the visually impaired to improve
their remaining usable vision, thus maintaining their quality of life and independence.
